Building a hair regimen can be a daunting task. Between trying to figure out what products work well with your hair, to the overwhelming variety of products available, to the time and dedication necessary to follow a consistent regimen; it gives me a headache just thinking about it. It doesn’t have to be a confusing mess of a process though. Here are some tips that will help you in building a hair regimen, which will get you to your hair goals faster.
Tip # 1: Establish hair goals
Consider what your hair goals are. All your decisions will revolve around this. If your goal is to only use natural products and natural ingredients, then this will dictate what products you will use.
If your goal is to achieve a certain length by a certain period of time, then you know you will have to be very strict with your regimen in order to retain as much length as possible.
Set your goals, make them as specific as possible, and work from there.
Tip # 2: Keep a journal
Ensure to write your goals down and make note of the regimen you believe will help you in achieving your goal. Remember to check back on your notes every once in a while to make sure you are sticking to the plan.
Tip # 3: Understand your hair
What’s the point of creating hair goals if you don’t understand how to achieve them based on your hair type? This may take a little research.
Did she just say research? Yes! If you don’t already know your hair intimately; follicle by follicle, then you better start Googling.
What’s your hair type? What’s your porosity level? Being able to answer these key questions will help you determine an effective hair regimen that fits your unique strands.
Tip # 4: Take it step-by-step
I know the easiest way for me to do any task is to take things step by step. If you break down the steps you’re going to take to achieve your hair goals, then you’ll have an easy-to-follow process to refer to.
For example, what is going to be your process for cleansing, conditioning, moisturizing, detangling and styling? These are all steps in any hair regimen.
Create a procedure for each step including the what (products to be used) and the how. Before you know it, you have an entire hair regimen worked out.
Tip # 5: Take pictures
Maintaining consistency in anything we do takes discipline and let’s be honest, most of us (clears throat) do not possess the discipline necessary to stick to most things. But, that’s ok!
Sometimes we just need a little motivation to give us that push. Take pictures of your progress. What’s better than to see the positive changes taking place?
Building a hair regimen and sticking to it requires some work and consistency. If you understand what your hair needs, stay motivated and make the process as simple and easy-to-follow as possible, you are more likely to see those results you want.
